Theartical Rebirth by Joanna Peiris - - BA (Hons) in Fashion Final Collection

A cultural exploration of identity, memory, and forgotten histories within Sri Lankan and Indonesian traditions. This collection became a visual translation of that disappearance and revival. The research process started with an in-depth study of Southeast Asian performance traditions, rituals, and visual languages. Sri Lankan ritual masks, Kandyan dance attire, temple scripts, and shadow play were studied alongside Indonesian Javanese and Balinese dance, Wayang Kulit silhouettes, and ancient calligraphy. These references revealed strong similarities in movement, ornamentation, and symbolism, particularly in the way dancers embody spiritual figures and forgotten ancestors through costume.
